Petaluma Historic Charm

A close up of a white lilac.

We worked closely with the owners to create a garden to showcase the historic charm of their Petaluma home, built in 1883 and renovated in 2021. The garden is a reflection of the owners’ love of plants, gardening and entertaining. A sequence of paths was added to provide connections to all areas of the yard and maximize the garden. The entry sequence to the main entry at the back door was reconfigured to provide a better flow between the garden areas, house and garage. The addition of an ipe deck provides a shady location for mid-day dining and reading. A fire table serves as the focal point for the main entertaining space, perfect for chilly Petaluma evenings and extending the use of the yard. Espalier fruit trees, raised vegetable beds and a potting table were added to the side yard to take advantage of a narrow sunny location. Areas for cut flowers were also included in the design.
