Hillside Garden
Existing mature trees, Sonoma cobble retaining walls, and concrete and brick paths remained in place to create this garden. Old concrete masonry until walls were treated with a stucco finish. Low stone walls and paths were added to the sloped hillside to create areas for exploring and expand the use of the yard. An existing well is used to irrigate the garden and a water cistern stores water for irrigation and fire protection. A green bioswale replaced an old concrete drainage swale and brought new life to the garden. Low water use perennials and shrubs were mixed with a few areas of garden favorites and cut flowers. Lippia and Kurapia groundcovers were used in low foot traffic areas in place of lawn. Non-fruiting olives, fruit trees and raised vegetable beds were also features of this garden.
